Titanic

1/400 Ocean Liner Titanic (Academy)

The Titanic model is the Academy Hobby Model Kits 1/400 scale (Model Ref BA060 1458). This is the first liner that I have actually built (Most of the models that I have built are from the tamiya 1/350 battleship range).

I decided to try and incorporate lighting into the model to try to show the internal detail of the model. The kit is generally very well made and incorporates a number of the internal staircases which I wanted to be able to see once the model was completed. Also the real titanic sank at night and many of the films portray the ship fully illuminated so I thought it might be a nice idea to try and get this effect.

In order to get the lighting effect, I installed eight torch bulbs in the hull, with a small jack-plug located on the bottom for external power. I drilled out all the portholes on the hull with a vertical drill, the whole drilling process took about two days!
