This is Revell's old kit of the Hospital Ship Haven. I picked it up a few years ago from my local hobby shop because I hadn't done anything like it before. The molding is from the 50's (the instructions refer to the "recent Korean War"), and it's pretty primitive. The railings were molded on as a solid chunk of plastic. It took a bit of work to cut and sand all of these off. I added some railings and other photo-etched details from Gold Medal Models, and scratchbuilt the helicopter deck netting. I added a scratchbuilt funnel, and detailed the kit's helo and boats. I cut the hull off at the waterline to make a water display (my first attempt at this). Overall, it was a fun challenge to make the old kit look good, and it was a nice departure from my usual fare.
