WWII Submarines

1/700 WWII Submarines (Various)

Here is the WWII wing of my 1/700 sub collection. On the left are four Japanese subs from the waterline series. From top to bottom, they are I-400, I-16, I-171, and 1-361. I added balsa wood lower hulls on them using the time-honored approach of "looks about right." They're not scale-accurate, but look OK for models this size.

That is also not the correct fairwater for the I-400. I found the original one had got lost in one of my moves, so I replaced it with a similar one from another Japanese sub. I recently got another I-400 kit so I hope to redeem myself when that one is built.

On the right side are kits that really were full hull - Skywave's Gato class subs and German Type XXIs and Type XXIIIs - two of each. The Gatos are basically the same except I painted one in the light measure 3 color camouflage scheme and the other in the dark measure.
