1/150 scale Type IX-B U-Boat
by Wm. (Bill) Burns
This is a 1/150 scale Type IX-B U-Boat from Academy/Minicraft that is meant to be built as a motorized submarine that will dive, come to the surface and then dive again. I had read a few discouraging reviews about this kit before I started it (one was downright nasty), and after building it, I agree with them all!! For a static model, some parts must be discarded and a lot of openings covered-up or filled-in with putty then sanded smooth. Some of these openings had no apparent purpose at all! The markings provided were of the self adhesive variety, and represent U-124. Gunze acrylics were used to paint the sub after which I added anti-fouling cables made from fine thread and then small drops of cyano glue were used to represent the floats(?). The flag and nameplate were made on my computer.
