U-209

1/72 DKM U-209 Type VIIC (Revell Germany)

This is the Revell 1/72 scale U-boat. I have to thank one of my best friends with the presentation of this kit. He is a carpenter and I asked him if he could make me a base and he made this beautiful mahogany base that you see here. It is also setting on billet aluminum mounts I had made in a machine shop. I used PE set from Yankee Modelworks Type VII U-boat Detail Set. I chose to use decals from U.L.A.D. Germany Type VIIc U-boat No UL7202. When I saw the wood deck set from Nautilus Models I had to get it. I have to thank Squadron for the figure from Dynasty Scale Models dn1606 U-boat Captain. I did not have to pay for the kit since it had two left legs and I they let me keep it. I need the captain for this project and could not find another to replace it, so I made it work by re-sculpting a new leg. I came to find out the kit was out of production. The build took almost a month. It’s not what I would call a hard kit or I should say a complex one. It has a minimum of parts and sub-assembles. The hardest thing to do was to open all of the flooding holes in the hull. It is painted with Model Master enamels and weathered with oils and pastels. One other problem is the shear size of the kit it becomes hard to work around it and it’s so big I cant even keep at my house. I finished it a few months back and just got some photos of it hope you all enjoy it.
