1/350 DKM U-300 Type VIIC/41 (Flagman)

This submarine was commissioned on 29 December 1943 under the Command of Oblt. Fritz Hein She was equipped with schnorchel latest in july 1944. She completed a total of 4 war patrols before being sunk on 22 Feb. 1945 in the North Atlantic by the british minesweepers Recruit and Pincher and yacht Evadne, 9 hands lost, 41 survivors. The boat was badly damaged on the 4th August 1944 by a Canadian Catalina from 162 Sqdn, but managed to limp to Trondheim. During her career she sunk 2 ships (icelandic 1542 ton freighter Godafoss, british 6017 ton tanker Shirvan, both on 10.Nov. 1944 from UR-142 convoy.). 2 more ships were hit on 17 Feb. 1945 (american 7176 ton liberty ship Michael J.Stone damaged, british 9551 ton tanker Regent Lion total loss, both from the UGS-72 convoy).

A small U-boat Type VIIC/41 kit from Flagman was very easy to build one. Fit was fine, with little filler necessary. Construction took around a week. I used some spare railings from my parts box, and replaced the 37mm gun barrel with a steel rod. I rigged her with a transparent sewing thread. 2 L'Arsenal and 1 Goffy figures represent her top watch. I had no PE radar or 37mm gun shield, so had to use the slightly clunky plastic parts, would probably replace them later. Water form is made of scrap resin bits, old putty, and then textured using thinned white glue and toilet tissue. Painting was done by airbrushing Modelmaster enamels, utilizing MIG pigments for rust.
