1/350 FN Surcouf (Hobby Boss)
This is the Hobby Boss 1/350 scale French submarine "Surcouf". I have
modified and painted the model to represent the Surcouf in her 1934 form
and color scheme, with her original (lower) conning tower and range finder.
She is depicted at anchor with open deck and hull hatches, with the aft
awning spread and some working boats about her.
I used scrap materials for the various additional details such
as the anti-aircraft guns and aircraft float struts;
the hull grilles abutting the aft torpedo tubes; the rods on
the main gun barrels (for opening/shutting the barrel end covers)
as well as the conning tower and working boat details. The grooves
in the conning tower sides and the fore deck were added to better delineate
the rotating turret. The aircraft wings and conning tower interior sides
were thinned for better scale effect. The crew figures are from L'Arsenal,
which I have painted in an effort to depict French sailors of the period!
