1/400 Redoutable (Heller)

Short history and some facts

The Redoutable is a ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) of the French Marine Nationale. The class entered active service in 1971, with the Le Redoutable. Six submarines were built in total. To my knowledge, only the L´Inflexible (S615) is still active and based in Ile Longue, Brest.

The redoutable was ordered in 1963, built in Cherbourg, launched in 1967, and commissioned in 1971. The Redoutable was decommissioned in 1991.

Like most submarine models, there are no construction problems. I kept to the paint scheme in the instructions. I have never seen the boat , so cannot give a comment on this “paint” subject.

The Diorama

I constructed a wooden box and stabilized the boat in such a manner that it would show it, running on the surface with high speed. The water was constructed from molding powder and water (2/3 powder – 1/3 water)

Photographs were made with a simple Rico G4 Wide Caplio.
