ORP Orzel

1/700 ORP Orzel (Niko)

Orzel was launched in February 1939. At the beginning of the war she was interned in Estonia, but escaped to the Britain and then served with the 2nd submarine flotilla operating out of Rosyth., whilst still sailing under Polish flag. On the 3 April she left port for her sixth mission , off the Norwegian coast, where she sank a German troop ship, the Rio-de Janeiro. 23. May 1940 saw Orzel leave Rosyth for the last tine; to patrol the waters between Norway and Denmark, however, neither the boat or her her crew were ever seen again. The most likely theory is that she hit a mine.

The model has been built from the 1/700 Niko Models kit, which consists of a one-piece resin hull in waterline format and 9 resin parts as well as 21 fine quality PE parts including the upper deck. I painted the model using Vallejo paints and weathered with oil and turpentine washes.
