1/700 K-461 Volk SSN, Project 971 - Akula Class (Takara)

About 4 years ago I saw a photo of a snow covered project 971 submarine leading a harbor in a very calm water and decided to replicate it. To accomplish that task I took a pre-assembled kit pf the Pr. 971 submarine from Takara (now available as a unassembpled Hobby Boss kit), took it apart and waterlined it. All of the small details were scratchbuilt.

The hardest part was making a very calm water, I used an Acrylic Gel Medium diluted with water and it was very hard to get rid of the brush marks, and it took about 5 tries of sanding it down and repeating before the water looked right. The mountain was made from Milliput. Snow was made from Baking Soda.

You can see the photo that inspired me here, but unfortunately I was unable to get the lighting exactly right, so this is the best that I could come up with. Overall the model is simple but at the same time looks unusual.
