Orel

1/350 Orel (Zvezda)

This is the Zvezda 1/350 Russian sub Orel, sistership of Kursk, that I built out of the box some time back and displayed hanging by the masts from the acrylic sheet, wrapped it all with acrylic paper. I noticed that temperature changes tended to break the paper, so I decided to refit the model by building the sea up and painting the sea walls. I stripped the paper and built the sea the same way as in my Besstrasshniy; Tamiya Royal Blue and silicone, as per Frank Ilse´s method. Then I sprayed the walls with Tamiya Clear Blue, which is supposed to be glossy but left a flat finish that in some weird way resembles the effect of the water fading the sub inside. I liked the effect of the acrylic sheet more than the paint as it allowed a better sight of the model, but it is good not to worry about the room being too warm or too cold, and mainly about direct sunlight.
