USS Silversides SS-236

1/72 USS Silversides SS-236 (Revell)

This is my version of the new Revell 1/72 scale Gato class submarine. I built this as the SS-236 USS Silversides after reading about her checkered history after the war and the struggle to preserve her as a museum.

As many of the others that have tackled this kit have remarked, it is an enormous model. And as per my habit of making cases for my ships, I was sorely taxed in my abilities to construct a case for this monster. Alas, it is too big to fit in my house and keep the peace, so it currently resides on display at my local hobby shop.

For anyone that has the space, I highly recommend this kit. In addition to being impressively huge, it also extremely high quality. This is probably the only kit I've ever build where I wasn't tempted to add anything to the model. I build this completely out of the box and only substituted nylon line for the black thread included for the rigging (which even though it was waxed cotton instead of regular thread I was concerned would droop with changes in temperature and humidity).
