My sub, formerly SS-417 has gone through some changes. One of the changes
made is it has been renamed SS 237 Trigger, reason for this is simple,
you see I work at Argosy Casino as a Security/EMT and I get a chance to
talk to allot of people and I had the Honor of meeting Mr.Wert the only
survivor of the SS 237 Trigger, Trigger was a WWII Gato Class sub that
was sunk by the Japanese and the only reason Mr.Wert survived was he hurt
his back and was transferred to a hospital before the Trigger's last patrol.
I am also rebuilding the deck and conning tower to reflect the Triggers
configuration. As for ballast control , it now has 2 side mounted tanks
that are fixed for free flooding and a small air compressor that will force
air in and water out. I will be using a 4 channel Futaba radio with 3 servos
working the rudder, forward and aft diving plans, the micro switch for
the air compressor and the free flood valve, the 4th. channel will be used
to run the speed control. It now has 2-12volt Dumas motors each turning
a separate shaft/prop direct drive counter rotating . The servos have been
made water proof by applying rubber tool dip and installing 'O' rings.
Each motor & shaft has it's own water tight compartment made of 2"
PVC pipe that has been heated with a heat gun and reshaped. The bottom
of the hull will be painted a deep red with gray applied to all vertical
areas except toward the stern where the gray will fade to a light gray
then to deep blue, then deep blue will be applied to all horizontal areas
. The battery box will contain 2-7.2 volt and 1-9.0 volt rechargeable battery
packs.
