1/192 USS Ohio SSBN-726 (Scratchbuilt)
Hello all, yes it has been a very long wile since I have last been on this board. Well I did a sub for the Washington State VA hospital for their small museum that is on their grounds. I have added other ships there as well. They wanted a sub of some kind for a special sub display. At that time I only had a Balo sub SS-383 that is on this site. She is 4 ft. and RC. I thought about it and since they were setting up a nuke sub display. I decided to do a scratch Ohio sub. Static, not RC. It’s been many years since I have done a sub or done any kind of scratch building. I picked up some information and in about 3 weeks I had one on the bench done.
It is about 3 feet long 3 inches round. Kind of funny on how that all ended up in time and size was not planning on that. I used 3 inch PVC plastic water pipe. It worked out good. I then planked on the bow and stern and scratch built the deck. Also along the way a rough model drop in, so I used it as well. I did both to look like the same one.
That is my DD 951 USS Turner Joy a kit that I finished and I ended up with it. It’s kind of fun to do a scratch build it but my lungs started to tell me about it again. That’s the reason for me stopping my building in the first place. But at least I saw I still had my skills. After I had it done and painted it with model master red. I’m not sure but someday I may do one in RC?? Everything is scratch build or cast. So now there is a pair of them. Reworked and built by me. So I can still rework kits ;-)
