1/350 USS Alabama SSBN-731 (DML)
This kit was bought in mid-2005 but made and completed within 2 days in September 2006. For movie fans who're into war-type action movies, you may notice that this submarine was featured in 'Crimson Tide' starring Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. Initially, I was planning to build the USS Ohio( the main submarine of this class ) as it was the largest nuclear powered submarine ever built, alongside the Typhoon class submarines used by the Soviet Navy. This 'giant' submarine has a class and style of its own and I was thus inspired to build it and will eventually put it alongside my existing collection of 1/350scale present day warships which includes the CVN-65 USS Enterprise. Fortunately, Dragon Shanghai made a 1/350 scale model of this kit, which is a rare find these days. Nevertheless, I find that it is a worthwhile 'ship' to make and display!
