1/350 USS Buchanan DD484 (Dragon)
I started this build of the 1942 USS Buchanan in Sept. 2010 and finished
it in January 2011. This was my second attempt at building the Buchanan
in her MS12 mod camo scheme. The first attempt ended with the Buchanan
being finished in the overall Navy Blue MS 21 scheme.
The model was completed using the following items:
-
Dragon's USS Buchanan kit #1021
-
Gold Medal Models' WWII USS Buchanan Benson/ Gleaves Class DD # 350-45
PE
-
L'Arsenal's 20mm guns # AC350-38
-
Classic Warship's Warship Pictorial #31 USS Buchanan DD484
-
Gator's paint Masks: USS Buchanan MS12 mod mask
-
Testors Acryl Paint
The MS12 mod camo scheme was painted with Testors MM Acryl Marine Paints
using a modified Gators mask..
-
Haze Gray 5H #4238
-
Navy Blue 5N #4241
-
Ocean Gray 5O #4239
-
Deck Blue 20B #4243
-
Flat Black #4768
The kits' "Painting and Markings" MS12 mod illustration for the port
side is not totally Accurate. These outlines are the same as the ones on
page 36 in Classic Warship's USS Buchanan's Pictorial which were supplied
by Dragon ("Art work provided by Dragon") and Gator's mask also matches
them. The correct outlines can be found on pages 24 and 25 of CW's
Buchanan Pictorial and on the back cover. Several broadside pictures can
be found on NavSource also. You can make the corrections by cutting
and modifying Gator's mask to fit the correct outline and you will save
time also.
